Darlene Ann Schutte, 76, of Postville, Iowa died Friday, November 22, 2013 at Ossian Senior Hospice, Ossian, Iowa.

She was born on August 25, 1937 to George and Bertha (Segrist) Ewing at their home in Allamakee County, Iowa. She graduated from Postville High School in 1955.

Darlene was employed by Kittleson Hardware in Postville.

She was united in marriage to Marlen F. Schutte on April 28, 1957 at the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville by the Reverend Walter T. Martin. To this union a son, Fred, was born.

Darlene began her career as a Librarian at the Postville Public Library obtaining the title of Certified Librarian and retired in 2002 after forty-four years of service.

Darlene was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville where she served on the music, worship and the Membership and Fellowship Committees. She also taught Sunday School and Bible School.

Darlene enjoyed reading, taking bus trips, crocheting, watching her soap operas, card club, collecting dolls, and she loved Christmas.

Survivors include her husband, Marlen Schutte of Postville; son, Fred (Kerri) Schutte of Byron, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Bryce, twins, McKenzie and Noah Schutte and two siblings, Gene (Margie) Ewing of Monona and Inez Watson of Postville.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; George and Bertha Ewing; a niece, Nancy Ewing and a nephew, Rex Ewing.

Visitation will be from 3 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Postville, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, Iowa with Rev. Gary Catterson as the Officiant.

Interment will follow at the Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
