Waukon, Ia. - Private Gordon Leikvold, 29, son of Gilbert Leikvold, died Tuesday afternon at the Army hospital at Pine Bluff, Ark., of accidental injuries received Sunday in a truck accident, according to word received here Wednesday by his father. The body will be returned to Waukon for a military funeral, but no date has been set for the services.
Private Leikvold, who was a member of the Quartermasters' Corps, was standing in the rear of a truck engaged in hauling supplies to Grider Field at Pine Bluff when the truck tipped over. A rod that was among the supplies on the truck struck Leikvold in the head, resulting in a fractured skull. He was imediately rushed to the camp hospital where physicians held little hope for the recovery from the start.
Prior to his induction into the Army last August, the victim was a linotype operator in Waukon, being employed at the Republican and Standard office.
He was born Oct. 16, 1913, and his mother died when he was a small boy. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his father; two sisters, Clarice and Evelyn, both of Waukon; one brother, Lloyd, who lives with his grandmother, Mrs. Ole Remay, about 12 miles east of Waukon.

Waukon, Ia. - A military funeral was held here Sunday afternoon at St. John's Lutheran Church for Private Gordon Leikvold, 26, who died April 13 at Pine Bluff, Ark., of injuries received in a truck accident. The Rev. P.F. Kjorlaug, pastor, offficated and burial was in the East Paint Creek Cemetery. Members of the Ralph D. Waters post of the Legion attended the funeral in a body.
