Waukon, Ia. - Funeral services for Martin Welch, 49, were conducted Tuesday morning at St. Mary's Church at Lycurgus with the Rev. Dennis O'Leary, pastor, celebrating the requiem mass. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Welch died suddenly Saturday afternoon in a Decatur, Ill. hospital where he was a patient the past two weeks.

He was born in Allamakee County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Welch. He followed the barber's trade for several years.

Surviving are his father; a sister, Nora, on the home farm; and seven brothers, Charles and Ambrose, both of Decatur; William, of Saskatchewan, Canada; Peter, Pat, James and Leo, all of Lycurgus. His mother died several years ago.
