Lucille Brazell, 92, of Waukon, died Friday, July 18, 2003, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Monday, July 21 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, with Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating, Burial was in St. Joseph's at Paint Rock Cemetery in rural Harpers Ferry. Martin Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. Mary Lucille Brazell was born October 30, 1910, on the rural Lafayette Township farm of her parents, Matt and Margaret (Thornton) Guider. She was baptized and confirmed at Wexford Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, rural Lansing, and graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic High School in Lansing in 1928. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Lucille taught country school for several years in the Allamakee County area. She married Clement Brazell at Wexford Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on December 2, 1933. She and Clement farmed for several years in the Harpers Ferry area. In 1958, Lucille worked at Veterans Memorial Hospital as a switchboard operator. She also worked at the Waterville Elementary School in the library. Lucille was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and its ladies circles; volunteered at Makee Manor, Good Samaritan Center, and Northgate Care Center; and was a member of the hospital Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary in Waukon. She enjoyed sewing, doing embroider, playing cards, and visiting with family and friends. Survivors include one son, Jim (Wilma) Brazell of Harpers Ferry; four sisters, Ann (Bill) Thomson and Marge Bigelow, both of Waukon, Genevieve Wild of Lansing, and Catherine Betthauser of Stillwater, Minn.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a son Robert.Honorary casketbearers were members of the VFW Auxiliary. Casketbearers were Joseph Betthauser, Brian Houlihan, Jim Olson, Bob Gallagher, Tom Thomson, and Jerry Siegrist.
