David Lynn Fox was born December 4, 1955 in Postville, Iowa, the son of Ronald Dean and Marilyn Kay (Girot) Fox. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Dave loved the rural life and enjoyed growing up on the farm, being active in 4-H and FFA, and showing animals at the County Fairs. He graduated from Postville High School in 1974 and attended Iowa State University for one year. Dave returned to the area and worked at Norplex before he returned to what he truly enjoyed, which was farming. Dave also owned and operated Blue Fox Trucking and made regular runs to Utah and the West Coast. When the opportunity to purchase a neighboring farm arose, he once again began farming with his father. He was still actively farming and since 1995, when they sold the dairy cows, had been trucking for Hall Roberts' Son of Postville, having the best of both worlds. On March 27, 1987, Dave was united in marriage to Debra Jo Sass at St. Paul Lutheran in Monona, IA. Dave was very proud of his children: Jessica Sue Bahls, a physical therapist assistant, and husband, Greg, of Manchester; Shane, who is in the Air Force stationed at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nevada; and Dustin, at home. Dave also was anxiously awaiting the birth of his first grandchild in November. Dave led an active life in his work, his church, and his free time. He served two terms on church council, taught Sunday School for many years, and also served as Sunday School Superintendent, and helped with the Youth Groups. He also placed 157th out of approximately 60,000 bowlers at The American Bowling Congress National Tournament this year in Knoxville, Tennessee, bowling a 718 series. Dave spent many years playing softball, finally retiring at the age of 41. He also loved to deer hunt, go golfing and fishing, and play cards with "The Pinochle Group." Dave cherished all the time he spent with family and friends. On July 18, 2003, after a short, but courageous battle with cancer, Dave died on the farm he loved, surrounded by the people he loved, at the age of 47 years, 7 months, and 14 days. He showed us how to live life fully by working hard, helping whenever he could, and always being ready to enjoy life. Surviving family members include his wife, Debra; 3 children, Jessica Bahls and her husband, Gregory, of Manchester, Shane Fox, serving in the Air Force and stationed in Nevada, and Dustin Fox at home; his parents, Ronald and Marilyn (Bunny) Fox of Postville; 2 sisters, Debra Moon and her husband, Dennis, of Luana, and Diana Parker and her husband Ed of Monona; nieces and nephews, Steffany & Cody Moon and Nicole & Anthony Parker; father-in-law Ramon Sass of Monona; mother-in-law Joan Sedlmayr and her husband, Norman of Bagley, WI; and brother-in-law Danny Sass and wife, Carol, of Streator, IL. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Agnes Girot and Lowell and Ruby Fox. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 21, 2003 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville with Pastor James Allison officiating. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. Serving as casketbearers were Dave Hartley, John Hartley, Bill Harris, Mike Jocobson, Cleo Heying, and Bobby Plaht. Honorary Casketbearers were employees and co-workers at Hall Roberts' Son of Postville.
