I have 2 obituaries for William Ryan of Allamakee County who was my g-g-grandfather. The first obituary was given to me by Edward Cornelius Ryan of Waukon who passed away in 2011. There is no date on the obituary nor is there a newspaper name but given what Ann Krumme previously posted for William Ryan, I assume it is the Allamakee Journal. Thank you.

William Ryan, Sr. a brief mention of whose death we made last week, was born in the county of Limerick, Ireland in the year 1812, and died at the home of his son, Roger, Union Prairie township, Monday, October 30, 1905. He came to America in 1840 and settled in Clinton county, N. Y., where he married Margaret Duggan. He came west and settled in Allamakee county in 1865, where he resided until his death. His wife preceded him to the grave several years ago. Nine children were born to them, eight of whom are still living. They are Matt, of California; Mrs. D. D. Fitzgerald of Washington; Michael, Hartwell (sic), Neb., Mrs. Hickey, Chicago; Thomas, Minnesota; John S. of Jefferson township, this county; William, Waukon, and Roger of Union Prairie township.

The deceased was an upright, hard working man and leaves a stainless name to his descendants. He was blessed with the enjoyment of all his faculties to the last and death came to him lik?? peaceful slumber.

The funeral occurred Thursday and after Requiem Mass at St. Patrick's church the remains were laid to rest at Mount Olivet cemetery, a large concourse of mourning friends being in attendance.

From the Allamakee Historical Society I also obtained the following article from the Waukon Standard, page 5 of the November 2, 1905 edition:

On Tuesday morning at the home of his son Roger in Union Prairie township, occurred the death of William Ryan at the age of ninety-three years. He was born in Ireland in 1848*, and came to this country when about twenty-five years of age. There were eight children, six boys and two girls. The funeral services will be held at the Catholic church this morning.

On Oct. 31st at the home of his son Roger in Union Prairie township, Allamakee county occurred the death of William Ryan at the age of ninety-three years. He was born in Ireland in 1848{sic}, and came to this county when about twenty-five years of age.

Transcriber’s Note: Obviously, if he was 93 years old, he was not born in 1848. There is a William Ryan buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery who was born in 1812 which would be correct. The article below shows another age.
