Postville Herald, Thur., 8 March 1923. Re-printed from the Waukon Republican & Standard.

A tragedy was enacted in a cell at the county jail Thursday morning, says the Waukon R & S, when Otto Peterson of near Lansing committed suicide by twisting an electric light cord about his neck. Mr. Peterson was brought from his home near Lansing Tuesday evening as his actions had led his family to believe he was mentally unbalanced, and was placed in a cell in the county jail for the night and was to have been given an examination by physicians the following morning. When Sheriff Davis made his regular morning visit he discovered the lifeless body in the cell. It is evident that he committed the act early in the morning as another of the jail inmates stated he heard him moving about in his cell at an early hour. Deceased leaves a family on a farm about two miles from Lansing.
