John C. Zieman was born June 21, 1822, at Unheim, Paumerinia, Germany, and died near Postville, Iowa, Nov. 4, 1914, aged 92 years, 4 months and 12 days.

In 1848 he immigrated to Waterloo, Canada, in 1852 he came to Guttenberg, Iowa, where two years later he was married to Elizabeth Meier, who died 12 years ago. To this union were born five daughters and one son. He later lived in Jefferson, Read and Grand Meadow townships in Clayton county. After retiring from the farm he moved to Postville where he continued to reside until the death of his wife, since which he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Aug. Kugel in Grand Meadow township.

Deceased was a faithful member of the Lutheran church, his place in the church being never vacant when he was able to attend, and although not feeling well he was at church two weeks ago last Sunday.

He leaves to mourn his departure his son Albert Zieman of Postville, his daughters Mrs. Augusta Kugel of Luana, Mrs. Otto Weber of Spencer and Mrs. Fred Wilke of Earlham; a sister, Mrs. F. Bernan of Desoto and a half-sister, Mrs. Paul Moore of Hampton, 31 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Henry Meyer.

The funeral was held from the Lutheran church in this city last Friday afternoon, Rev. E. Schmidt officiating. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
