Postville Review, Sat., 12 Dec. 1896. (condensed).

John H. Sanders was born in Elizabethtown, N.Y., in March, 1823, and died at his home in Postville, Iowa, Dec. 3rd, 1896. He was married to Julia J. Clark in 1848, and came to Iowa and settled on a farm in Grand Meadow township, Clayton Co,, in 1857. In 1868 he came to Postville and erected the house in which he died. Since his residence here he has done a great deal for the building up of Postville, nearly all the time having some building operations on hand. In 1878 he united with the M.E. church and has since been much interested in the work of the church. He died in the faith of a glorious immortality, at peace with God and all the world. The funeral was held Sunday at the M.E. church, which was filled almost to capacity with sympathizing friends and relatives.

Aside from the immediate family resident in Postville, all the daughters and the son from abroad were at the funeral as follows: Mrs. M. O. Taylor, of Chicago Heights; Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Douglass and daughter, of Nebraska; Herbert Sanders and wife, of Rudd. The other relatives were: Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Finney and Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Finney, of Fayette; Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Dibble, of Hawkeye; Mr. and Mrs. White, of Clermont; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Turner, of Wagner; Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Nichols, of Monona; and Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Smith, of Castalia.

The Editor of the Review adds: There is perhaps no man in southern Allamakee Co. or northern Clayton Co. better known to more people than was Mr. Sanders. A number of monuments are left all over town to his industry and perserverance, he having erected several buildings, established a lumberyard, etc. In all our acquaintance we found him upright, genial and companionable, and we always counted on him as a friend.
