Former Postville Man Passes On At Osage.

Melbert James Simpson, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Simpson, was born near Postville, Iowa, January 3, 1853, and passed away at the home of his son, Ray, near Osage, February 25, 1937, after a short illness. He had reached the ripe old age of 84 years, one month and 22 days.

His early life was spent on his father's farm and he attended a nearby rural school. In young manhood he went to Mitchell county.

On December 11, 1883, he was united in marriage with Miss Grace Peck. They lived for a short time on his father's farm at Postville, after which they returned to Mitchell county and bought a farm near the Lincoln Baptist church. In 1910 they purchased the G. M. Stoughton farm which has continued to be his home.

To this union were born six children, two daughters and four sons. The daughters, Bertha and Nellie, passed away in early life and the wife and mother January 3, 1925. The four sons, Ray, Bert, and Vern of Osage, and Lloyd of Des Moines, remain to cherish his memory. He is also survived by six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Webster of Worthington, Minnesota, and Florence Davis of Postville, Iowa.

As long as the Lincoln Baptist church functioned he was a regular attendant.

Mr. Simpson was by occupation a farmer and spent all but a short period of his life on the farm. He was a man of clean moral habits, a kind husband and father and esteemed by all who knew him.

The funeral was held at the Champion funeral home Saturday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Stiles Lessly. Interment in the Osage cemetery.
