John Edward Sheehy Victim Of Sudden Death.

The body of John Sheehy of Grand Forks, secretary of the Implement Dealers Mutual Insurance company, was found Tuesday afternoon at 5 o'clock about three blocks from the Williams cottage at Lake Bemidji, from where he disappeared Monday afternoon about 4 o'clock. He left the cottage after Mrs. Sheehy had gone to mail a letter and when he did not return a searching party was organized. About thirty men from Grand Forks left for Bemidji Tuesday to aid in the search, but the body had been found when they arrived.

Services will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock from St. Michael's pro-cathedral, according to tentative funeral arrangements. The body will be brought to Grand Forks this afternoon.

Mr. Sheehy had been in poor health for some time, having been discharged from a local hospital 10 days ago after undergoing an operation. He had gone to Bemidji to recuperate and was accompanied by his wife and son Edward. It is believed that his death was due to his recent illness, aggravated by the intense heat.

He came to Grand Forks In 1890 and was employed as secretary for the Collins & Murphy company. He was later employed by the George Duis Implement company, and when the Implement Dealers Mutual Insurance company was formed 20 years ago he became secretary of it and held that position until the time of his death.

Besides his wife and son, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ellen Sheehy, who is visiting at the M. F. Murphy home; two brothers, Leo of International Falls, Minn., and Frank of Oakland, California; and two sisters, Mrs. M. E. Williams and Miss Mayme Sheehy of Minneapolis. He was a nephew of M. F. Murphy. -- Grand Forks (N.D.) Daily Herald, Wednesday, July 9, 1924.

The above notice reached the writer last Friday evening in a paper mailed us by John Murphy of Reynolds, N.D., and was the first news of the lamentable fact to reach this city, and the expressions of sorrow elicited as the sad news spread about testifies as nothing else could to the high place Mr. Sheehy held in the hearts of the people of his old home town.

John Edward Sheehy was born in Postville about 52 years ago, leaving for Grand Forks at about the age of eighteen years, where he "made good" in every position of trust he occupied, and by occassional visits here maintained the friendships established in his earlier years.

To this writer, as well as to numerous other present residents of Postville, John E. Sheehy was playmate, schoolmate and friend. We loved his genial companionship as a boy, we admired his manliness as a man, and through all the intervening years we enjoyed his genuine friendship, and while we sorrow deeply that he is no more, pleasant memories of the past concerning John will abide with us throughout our earthly pilgrimage. And to those who knew and loved him more closely than it was possible for us to do, we extend our sincere and heartfelt sympathy.
