On Monday of this week Mrs. Sarah Brooks passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. W. Stahl of Waukon, her death following a paralytic stroke suffered Thursday of last week, which was followed by a second stroke on Saturday morning last.
Her maiden name was Sarah Shuff and she was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, 89 years ago last June. In 1854 she and her husband came to Iowa, locating on a farm in Franklin township, Allamakee county, where they resided for many years, and where the husband and father passed away in 1886.
Deceased was a devoted wife and loving mother whose many good qualities of head and heart endeared her to an ever widening circle of friends who will sincerely mourn her passing and sympathize sincerely with those bereft.
The demise of Mrs. Brooks marks the passing of the last member of her family, two of her brothers meeting death in the Civil War.
She is survived by four sons - Joseph of Jefferson township; Will of Britton, S.D.; John of route 2, Postville, and Gaddes of this city; and two daughters - Mrs. Abe Evans of Jefferson township and Mrs. E. W. Stahl of Waukon.
The funeral services were held at the United Bretheren church at Forest Mills on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. R. L. Van Nice of Waukon. Interment in the Pleasant Ridge cemetery, midway between Monona and Marquette, by the side of her husband.
