Postville is again called to mourn the passing of another of it's old residents in the person of Mrs. William Shepherd, who passed away at her home in this city on Friday, September 5, 1930, her demise following a protracted period of failing health and being hastened by a paralytic stroke suffered some weeks ago. Mrs. Shepherd had been a resident of this city for the past sixty-five years and was known to all as a women of many good qualities of head and heart, who will be sadly missed by a wide circle of friends, who will learn of her passing with sorrow and sympathize sincerely with those bound to her by closer tie.
Elizabeth Susan Beedy was born in New York state, December 12, 1848. While a small child she came with her parents to the vicinity of Postville, Iowa, and her entire life has since been spent here.
On November 1, 1865, she was married to Levi Minnick. To them three daughters were born, Nora, Addie C. and Effie May, all of whom preceded her in death. Mr. Minnick died April 13, 1887.
On July 28, 1898, she was united in marriage to Wm. Shepherd of Postville.
Mrs. Shepherd is survived by her husband, by a half-sister, Mrs. Cora Abel of Pasadena, Calif., five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held from the Community Presbyterian church in Postville on Monday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. R. F. Galloway officiating. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
