Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for John "Chuck" Daniel Luther, age 87, of Waukon, Iowa will be held Thursday, March 1 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Father Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa. Martin Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
John "Chuck" Daniel Luther, son of Jack and Margaret (Sullivan) Luther, was born on September 1, 1924. He attended St. Patrick Grade School and graduated from St. Patrick High School in 1943. Chuck served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater where he earned numerous combat medals including the Purple Heart. Following the military service he attended Loras College for one year. On June 14, 1955 he married Fran Riley at St. Raphael's Cathedral in Dubuque, Iowa. Chuck worked as a salesman and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the VFW. He enjoyed golf and following the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
John "Chuck" D. Luther died Monday February 27, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Luther; one brother, Bob Luther, and two sisters, Dorothy O'Riley and Mary Brandt.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 56 years, Fran; three sons, Bill (Kyong Hye) Luther of Harkers Heights, Texas, Tom Luther of Batavia, Illinois, and David (Brenda) Luther of Byron, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Sara, Kelly, Andy, Lee, Zac, Emily, Melissa, and Nic Luther; and one brother, James Luther of Cary, Illinois.
