Francis Hanley, age 80, of Lansing, died Monday, June 9, 2003, at Thornton Manor Nursing Home in Lansing. Memorial services will be Saturday, June 21, 2003, at the United Methodist Church in Lansing with Rev. Keith Putney officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing. Friends may call on Saturday, June 21 after 10 a.m. at the church. Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing assisted with arrangements. Francis was born in Lansing December 26, 1922, to James and Ellen (Olloff) Hanley. He was a life-long resident of what is known as the town of Columbus, near Lansing, with the exception of when he worked at the Dubuque Packing Plant early in life. When he moved back to the area, he helped his nephew Jerry operate Jerry's Tavern. Francis raised and trained three German Shepherds. He also loved to grow roses. Francis is survived by a niece, Judy Hanley of LaCrosse, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Daisy Hanley in 1999; and a nephew, Jerald Hanley.
