Funeral services for Donald Leo Colvin, age 67, were held Monday, June 27, 1994 in the Postville Community Presbyterian Church with Rev. Reuben Tjaden officiating. Casket bearers were M.D. "Swede" Hjelming, Walter Saur, Charles Kelly, Robert Gruhn, Leslie Klink, Frank Olson, Daryl Sander, and James Lage. The Schutte Funeral service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery at Waukon, Iowa.

Donald Leo Colvin, son of Leo Everett and Gertrude R. (Hansmeier) Colvin, was born December 25, 1926 at Waukon, Iowa. Don was baptized April 24, 1927 in the Zion Reformed Church at Waukon, Iowa. Don attended grade school at Elkader, Iowa and graduated from the Elkader High School in 1944. He joined the U.S. Navy on December 23, 1944 and was honorably discharged on May 21, 1947 with the rating of SP(Q)(CR) 2, USN. On September 23, 1948, Don was united in marriage to Opal Mildred Thyer at Elkader, Iowa. They had an adopted son, Tracy, who was born March 7, 1960. Don attended the Midland Linotype School at Charles City, Iowa prior to moving to Iowa City in 1951 to work for the daily newspaper, The Press Citizen. He was employed there until the fall of 1965 when they moved to Postville, Iowa. He was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, Iowa.

Donald Leo Colvin died Friday, June 24, 1994 at the Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Tracy Dee Colvin, who died at the age of 8 on July 9, 1968 when he was riding his bicycle and was struck by an on-coming vehicle.

Donald is survived by his wife Opal; one brother William Edward Colvin and his wife, Joan, of Bow, Washington, and one sister, Mary Jo and her husband, James Seaba of North Liberty, Iowa.
