Obituary-Mrs. W. J. Barnes
Jeannette Dan Rose, daughter of John and Mary Rowe, was born October 16, 1851, at Wisbeach, Cambridgeshire, England. At five years of age she came with her parents to America, settling on a farm on the English Bench, Union City township, Allamakee county, Iowa. She was married to John Cole, who passed away in 1899, and she has been a resident of Lansing since her marriage to Mr. Cole. Later, in 1901, she was married to W. J. Barnes, who survives her.
She united with the Methodist Episcopal church early in life and through the years has continued a useful and faithful member of the same.
She leaves to mourn her loss the husband and his sister, Miss Evelyn Barnes, and her niece, Mrs. George Hartley, also other nieces and nephews in this county, and almost innumerable friends.
A quiet, unassuming, practical Christian now gone home.
Deceased died at 5 p.m., Thursday, October 19, of a stroke, following a lingering illness of several months. Funeral from Federated church Sunday, October 22, at 2 p.m., Rev. J. C. Warton, former pastor, officiating and preaching a consoling and inspiring sermon, Burial in Oak Hill cemetery, the casket bearers being D. A. Holmes, E.B. Gaunitz, George Aschom, Wm. Lenz, Frank Goettle, Albert Kehr.Allamakee Journal
