Funeral services for Truman Gillette Slitor, age 74, of Waukon, Iowa were held Saturday, April 21 at 1:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Larry Olson officiated and burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa. Casket bearers were Eaton Cote, Jim Ludeman, Ben Quillin, Lynn Morrow, John Hausman, and Vernon LeMaster. Honorary casket bearers were Paul Cote, Keith Bigelow, Elmer Kewley, Roger Martin, Jack Wadsworth, and Mayhew Eaton.

Truman Gillette Slitor, son of Ray and Nellie (Eaton) Slitor, was born February 4, 1916 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was a graduate of Waukon High School and also the University of Iowa. For 36 years he served as Waukon City Clerk. On January 19, 1938 he was united in marriage to Gwendolyn "Gwen" Kelly in Iowa City, Iowa. Truman was a member of Kiwanis, Masonic Lodge, and the Allamakee County Historical Society. He was active in the local chapter of AA, served on the Veterans Memorial Hospital Board and also served as president of the Waukon Library Board. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as an officer.

Truman Gillette Slitor died Wednesday, April 18, 1990 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gwen who died May 15, 1975 and also by his brother Richard Slitor.

Truman is survived by his 2 sons, Truman Wentworth Slitor of Marquette, Michigan and James Slitor of Delray Beach, Florida; a daughter, Susan (Charles) LeMaster of Charles City, Iowa; 2 grandchildren, Michelle Slitor and Sandra Slitor; and a brother Mayhew Slitor of Shafter, California.
