Funeral services for Ruth Genevieve Smith, of Monona, Iowa, were held Sunday, June 17, at Garden City United Methodist Church in Monona, Iowa with Rev. Gary Dobbins conducting the 1:30 p.m. services. Burial was in the Smithfield Cemetery, rural Volney, Iowa with Schultz Funeral Home in Monona in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Vernon Cooper, Lawrence Powell, Leland Meyer, Todd Kaeser, Everett Bollman, and Lloyd Lamborn.

Ruth Genevieve, daughter of William H. and Maude Mae (Stafford) Henderson, was born October 26, 1906 in Allamakee County, Iowa. She received her education in the Volney country school. On May 20, 1924 she married George Alan Smith at the Methodist parsonage in Waukon, Iowa. They farmed in Franklin Township near Volney until 1962 when they moved into Monona, Iowa. She was a member of Volney Methodist Church and its Ladies Aid, which later joined into the Garden City UMC in Monona, Iowa.

Ruth Genevieve Smith died Thursday, June 14, 1990 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, a granddaughter Connie Jo; 2 brothers, Earl Henderson and Forrest Henderson, and 2 sisters, Gladys Huffman and Violet Walters.

Ruth is survived by her husband, George of Monona, Iowa; 2 daughters, Mary Jackman of Monona, Iowa, and Georgia Kruse of Ames, Iowa; 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and a sister, Marion Cooper of Waukon, Iowa.
