Funeral services for William "Bill" Benson, age 63 of Lansing, Iowa were held Saturday, September 6 at Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing, Iowa with Father Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph's Paint Rock Cemetery, rural Harpers Ferry, Iowa. Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.

Bill Benson was born in Cresco, Iowa on March 12, 1940 to Harlan and Ione (Wacha) Benson. On May 8, 1993 he married Shirleyy Martin at Lansing, Iowa. Bill worked for 22 years at Hygrade Foods in Postville, Iowa as a beef lugger. Later he worked for Northern Engraving, retiring in March of 2000. Bill loved fishing in both summer and winter. He followed sports, especially the Atlanta Braves and the Green Bay Packers.

William Benson died Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. Bill was preceded in death by a daughter Debbie Benson in 1970, his father, Harlan Benson in 1983, and 2 sons Jeffrey Martin and Roy LaVerne Martin.

Bill is survived by his wife, Shirley of Lansing, Iowa; his mother Ione Benson of Postville, Iowa; 6 children, Gerry Martin, Jr. of Lansing, Iowa,, Keith (Kathy) Martin of Bassett, Iowa, Marty (Becky) Martin of New Hampton, Iowa, Brenda (James) Bronwoldt of LeRoy, Minnesota, Sheri and Greg; 10 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren; and 6 siblings, Leonard (Janet) Benson, Tom (Julie) Benson, and Bob Benson all of Postville, Iowa, Mary (Kenny) McCormick and Joe Benson, both of Clear Lake, Iowa, and David Benson of Elgin, Iowa.
