Funeral services for Bruce David Cowell, age 48, of LaCrescent, Minnesota were held Monday, May 10 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Crucifixion in LaCrescent, Minnesota. Inurnment followed in the church cemetery with Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Bruce David Cowell, son of David and Wilma (Melcher) Cowell, was born March 17, 1951 in Waukon, Iowa. The family lived on a farm on the Big Foot Road near Volney, Iowa. He attended school in Waterville, Iowa through the third grade when the family moved to Monona, Iowa. Bruce graduated from the MFL High School in Monona, Iowa in 1969 and in 1973 he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse with a degree in business. On August 8, 1970 he married Carol Ginther in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

For the past 15 years, Bruce served as sales manager for Collins Outdoor Advertising. He was on the board of directors of the Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa Outdoor Advertising Association; a member of the board of the LaCrosse Advertising Club, on numerous chambers of commerce, including LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Winona, Minnesota, and Decorah, Iowa; on the board of directors for Girl Scouts of America and a member of the West Bank Ducks Unlimited.

Bruce David Cowell died Thursday, May 6, 1999 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Winona, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by a brother Duane Cowell who died in May of 1993 and three sisters who died in infancy, Maxine, May, and Julia.

Bruce is survived by his wife Carol; 2 daughters, Wendy (Chris) Horn of LaCrescent, Minnesota and Sara (Scott) Franzose of Brownsville, Minnesota;3 grandchildren; his parents, David and Wilma Cowell of Monona, Iowa; a sister, Marcella (Kenneth) Wendel of Postville, Iowa and a brother, George (Joanne) Cowell of Storm Lake, Iowa.
