Contributor: Connie Ellis (SCHLITTER FAMLY RESEARCHER)Funeral services for Marie Mount, age 95, of Waukon, Iowa were held Monday, January 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the Living Faith United Methodist Parish in Monona, Iowa. Burial was in the Sixteen Cemetery in rural Monona, Iowa.
Marie Ida Wilhelmina, eldest of 8 children of John Benjamin and Mabel Alma (Henkes) Schlitter, was born January 28, 1913 on the family farm in Linton Township in Allamakee County, Iowa. She was baptized at her parent's home and confirmed at the Watson Church in July of 1927 by the Rev. O.A. Hillman. Marie attended the Figgie Country School through the eighth grade. She was united in marriage to Roy Mount on April 29, 1936 in Waukon, Iowa by Rev. Van Nice. One daughter, Delores, was born to this union. Marie and Roy farmed together for many years. She moved to Monona, Iowa in 1988 shortly after Roy passed away. Marie had resided at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa since 2002. Marie enjoyed gardening and growing all types of flowers. She was a member of the Living Faith United Methodist Parish of Monona, Ruth Circle, Heritage Club, and the Holiday Club. She loved her family very much and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Marie died Monday, January 12, 2009 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa, following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy, who died September 4, 1988; her daughter Delores Leas, son-in-law, Eldon Leas; three sisters, Ethel Strelow, Delores Wilkins-Owens, Edna Klotzbach, and 3 brothers, Elmer Schlitter, Donald Schlitter, and Melvin Schlitter.
Marie is survived by her grandson, Ronald Leas of Waterville, Iowa; 2 great-grandsons, Nathan Leas, and Travis Leas; 1 great-great grandson, Kaden Leas; 1 sister, Helen Mielke of Monona, Iowa and 1 sister-in-law, Pauline Schlitter, also of Monona, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
