Funeral services for Joseph Walleser of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, were held Friday, June 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Ann's/St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry, Iowa. Burial was held in St. Joseph's Paint Rock Cemetery. Father Duane Raftis officiated with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were his brothers, Allen, Melvin, Fred, Carl, Byron and Ted Walleser.

Joseph Walleser, son of Lawrence "Duke" and Esther (Hammell) Walleser, was born March 7, 1949 in Waukon, Iowa. He graduated from St. George High School in Lansing, Iowa. On November 30, 1985 he married Nancy Feltes in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for ten years and was currently an operating engineer for J.F. Brennan Co. Inc. of LaCrosse, Wisconsin in marine construction. He was a lifetime resident of the Harpers Ferry/Lansing area. He was a member of the St. Ann's/St. Joseph's Catholic Church where he was a member of the church council. He was a former member of the Harpers Ferry zoning board and also an avid outdoorsman.

Joseph Walleser died at the age of 41 at his home in Harpers Ferry, Iowa on Thursday, June 7, 1990. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and a brother, Larry Walleser.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; a daughter, Hannah Elaine Walleser, age two; 2 sons, Hans Joseph Walleser, age one, and John Henry Walleser, six months old; his parents, Lawrence and Esther Walleser of Lansing, Iowa; 8 sisters, Theresa Rose (Alton) Key of Marshall, Wisconsin, Mary (Dan) Delaney of Lansing, Iowa, Karen (Bob) Batteen of Urbana, Iowa, Jean (Francis) Ottaway of McGregor, Iowa, Elizabeth "Bess" (Phillip) Anderson of Arlington, Texas, Rita (Eric) Hanson of Lansing, Iowa, Anita Walleser of Marshall, Wisconsin, and Esther Walleser of Riverside, California; and 6 brothers, Allen Walleser of Houston, Minnesota, Melvin Walleser, Fred Walleser, Carl Walleser, and Ted Walleser, all of Lansing, Iowa and Byron Walleser of Sheldon, Iowa.

NOTE: The names of his grandparents who preceded him in death were not listed, but I believe his paternal grandparents were John Joseph and Anna Henrietta (Berns) Walleser and his maternal grandparents were George and Bess (Wall) Hammell.
