Funeral services for Lester Burdell Bakke were held Wednesday, December 12 at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waterville, Iowa. Rev. Gary Bachman officiated at the 1:30 p.m. services. Interment was in the Old West Paint Creek Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon, Iowa was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Curtis Schoenthal, Harold Severson, Barthell Bakkum, Melvin Smedsrud, Ray Odegard, and Leo Murphy.

Lester Burdell Bakke, son of Julius and Helen (Johnson) Bakke, was born July 29, 1926 on the family farm in Paint Creek Township in Allamakee County, Iowa. He was baptized at West Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church by Rev. J. B. Unseth and confirmed at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church by Rev. A. P. Lea. He received his education at Old West Paint Creek rural school, "Fossum School". He farmed until 1975. He was a livestock trucker, custodian at Allamakee County Courthouse and the last several years he drove a van for Northeast Iowa Regional Transit.

Lester Bakke died December 9, 1990 at his home in Waukon, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Helmer Bakke.

Lester is survived by a brother Joseph Bakke of Postville, Iowa and many cousins.
