Funeral services for George Schellhammer, age 96, of West Bend, Iowa, former Allamakee County, Iowa resident were held Thursday, February 1 at 11 a.m. at the Methodist Church in West Bend, Iowa with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Schellhammer-Harris Funeral Home of West Bend, Iowa was in charge of arrangements. On Friday, February 2 graveside services with military rites were held at 11 a.m. at Lansing Ridge Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of services. Casket bearers were Wayne Schellhammer, Owen Schellhammer, Robert Schellhammer, Dale Meyer, Roger Reppe, and James Weipert.

George was born April 2, 1893 in Postville, Iowa to George and Kathryn (Fritz) *SEE NOTE AT THE END OF THE OBITUARY* Schellhammer. He attended school in Lansing, Iowa and served in the military during World War I. On August 28, 1919 he married Minnie Uren in Lansing, Iowa. Minnie died January 30, 1937. George was a mason and carpenter. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and a 70 year member of the American Legion.

George died Monday, January 29, 1990 at West Bend Care Center in West Bend, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Minnie, 3 sisters, Christina Zimmerman, Flora Marti, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Rissman, and a sister who died in infancy, and 3 brothers, John Schellhammer, Gottlieb Schellhammer, and Charles Schellhammer.

George is survived by his 3 sons, Morris Schellhammer of Waukon, Iowa, Ernest Schellhammer of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Glenn Schellhammer of West Bend, Iowa; 3 daughters, Marion (Thomas) Reppe of Mesa, Arizona, Elsie (Leslie) Meyer of Manchester, Iowa, and Lila (Francis) Weipert of McGregor, Iowa; 34 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Laura (John) Oesterle of Waukon, Iowa.

NOTE OF THE TRANSCRIBER; The surname of his mother has been stated three different ways. His obituary states "FRITZ", that of his mother, father, and his sister, Elizabeth Rissman state "FITZ", and in the obituaries for his brother John and his sister Flora Marti, it states "VITZ" as the mother's maiden name. Researchers need to be aware of this as they look for additional information.
