Jerry Hamm
Jerry Myer Hamm, son of Riley and Sarah Boggess Hamm, was born in Floyd County, Iowa, on May 13, 1886. He passed away at the Good Samaritan Home in Waukon on June 19, 1974, at the age of 88 years, one month and six days.
He was united in marriage to Kate Russell on Feb. 27, 1906. Most of his life was spent farming in the Waterville area. However, his early married life was spent in the Charles City area.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kate, three sons, Lawrence, killed in action in World War II, Lester, and a son who died in infancy. He was also preceded in death by six brothers, Charlie, Anson, Dale, Milo, Arthur and Cleston and one sister, Bessie.
He leaves to remember him three sons and three daughters: Harmon of Waterloo, Ia., Guy of Sherrill, Ia., and Barton of Waterville, Iowa; Mrs. Lester (Bernice) Erickson of Rochester, Minn., Mrs. Carlton (Helen) Jones of Waterville and Mrs. Clark (Vera) Nichols of Waterville; 23 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren.
He also leaves to remember him three sisters, Clara Baumgartner of Waterloo, Hazel Kautman of Charles City, and Josephine Goddard of Charles City and several nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted at the Garden City Methodist Church in Monona by Rev. Raymond W. Pacholke. Interment was in the Sixteen Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Hamm, Chad Nichols, Larry Erickson, LeRoy Bollman, Loren Hamm and Jeff Hamm.
Friends and relatives were invited back to the Volney Memorial Hall after the committal at the grave.
