Funeral services for Mark Alan Haltmeyer were held Saturday, Oct. 23, 1982 at 1:30 p.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville. The Rev. Dennis E. Morey officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Mark Alan Haltmeyer, son of Ervin and Ernestine (Christen) Haltmeyer, was born Aug. 26, 1947 at Postville, Iowa. He died Wednesday night, Oct. 20, 1982 at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital as the result of injuries received in a one-vehicle accident north of Prairie du Chien.

He was baptized and confirmed at the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville. In 1965 he graduated from the Postville Community Schools. He was married to Mary Meuther in 1966. Two daughters, Jill and Julie, were born to this union. He was employed at John Deere in Waterloo. From 1967 to 1969 he served as a Medic in the U.S. Army in Viet Nam.

After returning from Viet Nam, he bought a farm near Lisbon, Iowa, where he introduced a new breed of Italian cattle, the Chianini, to this area. While there he attended school on the G. I. Bill and was a cattle-buyer for Wilson-Sinclair Co. in Cedar Rapids.

Later he studied and became one of the top salesmen for John Zachar Realtors of Cedar Rapids. He branched into construction of homes with developments known as Fair View Heights at Anamosa and Blairs Ferry Manor near Marion, Iowa. With this he also had an irrigation and hydro-seeding business known as Turf Squirt.

On May 3, 1980, he was married to Kathleen Schmeiser. They moved to a farm near Seneca, Wis., where their son John was born. They formed Quality By-Products, Inc., a firm that sold firewood and transported whey to Luana. He was driving a truck in that venture when he met his death.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ervin, and a brother, Gary.

Surviving are his wife, Kathleen, a son, John, and two daughters, Jill and Julie, his mother, Ernestine, a brother Eugene and his wife, Betty of Postville, and two sisters, JoAnn Peake and her husband, Kenneth, of Waukon, and Chris Soride and her husband, Dennis, of Postville and also Mrs. Gary (Alice) Haltmeyer of Pasadena, Calif.
