Margaret Bakewell Dies Monday At Northgate.
Mrs. Arthur (Margaret) Bakewell, 83, of Lansing, died Monday, Sept. 29 at Northgate Manor nursing home in Waukon. She had been a resident there for the past few years.

"Peggy," as she was known by friends, and relatives, was born April 13, 1897 in Wauzeka, WI. The daughter of John and Margaret E . (O'Shaughnessy) O'Neill she was the last surviving member of a family of 13 children. In 1919 she entered nursing training St. Francis hospital's school of nursing, La Crosse, WI and came to Lansing as a private nurse in 1922

June 12, 1923 she married Arthur J. Bakewell at St. Gabriel’s Catholic church in Prairie du Chien, WI. In 1924, they moved to Oakland, where they resided several years before returning to live at the family's Oak Hill farm near Lansing:

She is survived: by her husband, of Lansing; three sons, James A. of Scottsdale, AZ, Robert O. of Tulsa, OK, and David of Phoenix, AZ; one daughter Mrs. Robert J. (Margaret) Welch of rural Lycurgus; 16 grandchildren, and four great - grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday; Oct. 1 at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic church in Lansing. The funeral mass was concelebrated by Rev. William O'Neill C.P.P.S. of the College of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN, Rev. Carl Manternach of Immaculate Conception parish, Lansing and Rev.Linus Rasing, of the New Albin and Lycurgus parishes. John O'Neill of Dubuque served as lector. Pallbearers were James T. Bakewell of Ossian, Thomas Scholtes of Lansing, Robert W, Bakewell of West Salem, WI; Cletus McKee of Harpers Ferry, Duane L. Bakewell of New Albin, and Daniel Scholtes of Lansing: Burial was in Gethsemane cemetery, Lansing.
Burke-Thornburg funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
