Lynda Gericke Martin
Lynda Beth Gericke Martin, daughter of LaMont Gericke and Fern (Buraas) Gericke Kephart, was born October 6, 1949 in Postville, Iowa. She died Friday, December 22, 1995 at her home in Decorah. She was 46 years old.She was baptized November 20, 1949 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville by the Reverend Frederick R. Ludwig and confirmed there on April 7, 1963 by Rev. Charles E. Witt. Lynda graduated from Decorah High School, attended Iowa State University, Luther College and NITI at Calmar, where she received her L.P.N. degree.
Lynda lived in Postville until 1965 when the family moved to Decorah, after the death of her father. For a short time she lived in Tempe, Ariz. and was employed by a telephone company. Later, Lynda was employed at the hospital in Waukon, the Eastern Star Home in Decorah, and then worked at a pet store called The Dog House.
She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Alfred and Norma Buraas; paternal grandparents, Eldo and Deasil Gericke and her father, LaMont Gericke.
Surviving are her mother, Fern Gericke Kephart and her husband, Floyd of Monticello; a sister, Laurel and her husband Dean Ohloff of Postville, two nephews, Aaron and Seth Ohloff and one niece, Arica Ohloff; an uncle Vernon Gericke and wife, Marty of Cedar Rapids, two aunts, DeElta Heins an dher husband Don of Luana, Shirley Blume of Milwaukee and several cousins. Also surviving are her two dogs, Clovis and Hannah. Lynda loved them as if they were her children.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Decorah and a member of Green Peace.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 24, 1995 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Rev. Charles W. Miller officiated. Special music was provided by Kenneth Timmerman, soloist, and Joann Martins, organist. Casket bearers were Lee Frantz, Steve Rogers, Steve Ohloff, Marlyn Ohloff, Dan Ohloff and Glen Ohloff. Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.
