Retired Army Sergeant Harris J. Evans, age 72, died at his home Friday, October 10, 1986. Funeral services were held Monday, October 13 at 1:30 p.m. at Martin Funeral Chapel in Waukon, Iowa, with the Rev. Henry Heinbuch officiating. Burial was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Bill Evans, Jason Becker, Sam Jones, Bill Ritter, Roger Kuhse, and Kenneth Ewing.

Harris was born February 12, 1914 in Allamakee County, Iowa to Stiner Joseph and Rose Mary (Harris) Evans. He received his education in local schools and also in the U.S. Army, serving from 1945 to 1965, including time in Korea and Germany. On June 11, 1955 he married Lois Welper at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his brother Otto Evans and a sister, Angie Bodell.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; a son Mark Evans and a daughter Diane Evans, both of Redondo Beach, California; a brother Kenneth Evans of Waukon, Iowa; 3 sisters, Mrs. James (Gretta) Williams of Gastonia, North Carolina, Bonnie Reardon of Elkader, Iowa and Roberta "Bobbie" Becker of Waukon, Iowa; and a granddaughter, Christie.
