Contributor: Connie Ellis (Schlitter Family Researcher)Earl R. Valley, age 64, died Wednesday, March 4, 1987 in Davenport, Iowa at the home of his son. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 7 at 11 a.m. at St. Ann's-St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Harpers Ferry, Iowa with Father John Smith officiating. Burial was in the Sixteen Cemetery with Schultz Funeral Home of Monona, Iowa in charge of arrangements. Military rites were by Harpers Ferry American Legion Post 722. Casket bearers were Todd Schoenthal, Jake Shaffer, Russ Risley, Steve Valley, Dan Valley, and Jerry Schoenthal.
Earl was born April 27, 1922 in Harpers Ferry, Iowa to Walter and Elizabeth (Dolan) Valley. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Ann's Church in Harpers Ferry. He was educated in Harpers Ferry schools. On August 30, 1943 he married Laura Schlitter at the Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry, Iowa. He retired in 1982 after working for J.I Case Company for 22 years. They lived in LeClaire, Iowa for 20 years before moving to Harpers Ferry. He was a member of St. Ann's-St.Joseph's Catholic Church and the Harpers Ferry American Legion Post 722.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Laura; a son Stan Valley of Davenport, Iowa and a daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Shirley) Stewart of Davenport, Iowa; 5 granddaughters; 2 brothers, Floyd Valley of Onalaska, Wisconsin and Maurice Valley of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; and a sister, Mrs. Lucille Cooper of Onalaska, Wisconsin.
