Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Alto E. Dahlstrom, age 64, of Waukon, Iowa died Tuesday, December 30, 1986 at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Services were set for Friday, January 2 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery with military services at graveside. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Gary Dahlstrom, Dave Wagner, Richard Wellman, and Clinton and Eddie Schnuelle.
Alto was born August 18, 1922 in Giard, Clayton County, Iowa to Frank and Lillian (Cordes) Dahlstrom. He attended local rural schools. From 1942-1945 he served in the Army in northern France and Rhineland. He received the Purple Heart, two Bronze stars, and the Good Conduct Medal. On October 7, 1949 he married Norma Schave in Castalia, Iowa. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He was a mill operator for Midland Coop in Waukon for 32 years.
He was preceded in death by a son in infancy; 3 brothers, Charles Dahlstrom, Howard Dahlstrom, and Francis Dahlstrom; and a sister, Katherine.
Survivors include his wife, Norma; 5 sons, Ronald, Dennis, and Dale, all of Waukon, Iowa, Duane of Monona, Iowa and Steven of Luana, Iowa; 2 daughters, Marlene of Waukon, Iowa and Julie Connolly of Waterloo, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; a brother Robert Dahlstrom of Waukon, Iowa and 4 sisters, Irene Schnuelle of Castalia, Iowa, Mildred Wellman of Strawberry Point, Iowa, Helen Wagner of Waukon, Iowa, and Jean Bjorkman of Bangor, Wisconsin.
