Danny Heffern

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 2 for Daniel James Heffern, 16, of Harpers Ferry, who was killed Thursday, Aug. 27 in a tractor accident. Father Duane Raftis officiated at the 11 a.m. services held at St. Ann's-St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Harpers Ferry.

He was born Jan. 8, 1971 in Waukon to Robert and Bernadine Welsh Heffern. He would have been a junior at Waukon Senior High.

Survivors include his parents, seven brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mary Ann Olson, Postville, Sarah, Zambia, Africa, Patti, Iowa City, Jack, Harpers Ferry, Nita, Cedar Rapids, Julie, Winona, MN, and Jeannie, Harpers Ferry and two nieces, Megan Olson and Ashley Heffern.

He was preceded in death by a brother Richard.

Danny Heffern was buried in the St. Joseph's Cemetery, Harpers Ferry, Iowa with Hanson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. He participated in football and wrestling. He worked on his parents' farm, was a member of a 4-H softball team and St. Ann's-St.Joseph's church.

Pallbearers were Tom Melcher, Paul Sorum, Brice Evans, Eric Jackson, Trent Mitchell, Jim Livingston, and Dan Kiley. Honorary pallbearers were Craig and Brian Welsh.
