Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 5 for Michael Allen Hogen, age 16, Waukon, Iowa, who died Saturday, May 2, 1987. The Rev. Lynn Groe performed the 11 a.m. service at St. John's Lutheran Church. Burial was in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Ellendale, Minnesota with graveside services at 3:30 p.m. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Jeff Hanson, Rick Yohe, Scott Sorum, Brad Berns, Jim Nagel, John Pladsen, Larry Malli, Allen Grosland, Gary Grosland, Mark Grosland, Gary Anderson, and Mark Hilleshiem.

Mike was born July 14, 1970 in Winona, Minnesota to Orton Allen and Sharon Ann (Grosland) Hogen. He attended school at Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota before the family moved to Waukon, Iowa. He started second grade in the Allamakee Community Schools and at the time of his death, he was a junior in the Waukon Senior High School. He played guitar, wrote music and formed a local band. He participated in football, golf and track.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Elmer Grosland.

Surviving are his parents; 2 brothers, Wade and Todd, both at home; grandparents Obert and Lucille Hogen of Kensett, Iowa and Mrs. Alice Grosland of Ellendale, Minnesota; several aunts and uncles including Michael's baptismal sponsors, Harold and Ellie Grosland, Paul and Joy Hogen, and Alt and Sandy Kvenvold.
