Especially after his retirement in 1980, he spent many hours working in his flower garden and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds that came to his back lawn as each season changed. At the time of his death, he was preparing for the arrival of the Martins, birds that return in the Spring. One special joy of his retirement was the visits of his granddaughter, Christine, who celebrated her second birthday two weeks ago at "Grandpa's house." Safely Home
I am home in heaven, dear ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in heaven at last.
There is work still waiting for you.
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remaineth-
You shall rest in God's own land.
When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!
