Reuben O. Schorg, 94, of Waukon, died Wed., May 23, 2001, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held Sat., May 26, at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. David E. Schafer officiating. Burial followed in St. Mary's Lycurgus Cemetery, rural Waukon.
Reuben Oliver Schorg was born Oct. 1, 1906, in Guttenberg, IA. His parents were Frank and Clara (Schroeder) Schorg. He was baptized in the Guttenberg Methodist Church and graduated from Guttenberg High School. On July 5, 1929, he married Frances "Tanny" Niedorkorn in Guttenberg.
Reuben worked for the Corps of Engineers until 1931, when he began farming in the rural Guttenberg area. He moved to rural Waukon in 1942, where he farmed in Center Township of Allamakee County for 27 years. In 1972, he moved to Waukon, where he has lived since, spending the past several years as a resident of Northgate Care Center.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also liked to play cards and loved to travel. Reuben and Tanny spent many winters together in the Brownsville, TX, and Tampa, FL, areas.
Reuben is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances "Tanny"; a granddaughter, Marsha Kay; a great-grandson, Jesse John; two brothers, Delbert and Roy Schorg; and 2 sisters, Bernice Kurth and Ethel Kickbush.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Forster of Cleveland, TX, and Norma (Jerry) Troendle of Lansing; two sons, Reuben A. (Nancy) Schorg of Lansing and David (Clara) Schorg of Council Bluffs; 12 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Casketbearers were Bob and Tony Schorg, Brian and Larry Troendle, Jason Martin, Chris Bruce, Dusty Lawson, and Terry Burks.
