Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Longtime Waukon resident Victor William DeBuhr, 69, died Sunday October 29, 1989 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 1 at 1:30 p.m. at Salem United Church of Christ with Rev. Dr. Elsa Marsland officiating. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Waukon VFW Post. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He was born July 23, 1920 in Saukville, WI to Anton and Ada (Snitker) DeBuhr. The family moved to Waukon in 1930. He graduated from Waukon High School and attended one year at Waukon Junior College where he played football. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1945, serving in the South Pacific and attaining the rank of corporal.
On January 2, 1948 he married Betty Selberg at Salem UCC. For 44 years, he operated DeBuhr and Sons Plumbing in Waukon, first with his father and later with his sons. He was a member of Salem UCC and the VFW.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Gerry and Dennis, both of Waukon; three grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Boyd (Audrey) Groesinger of Waukon.
Casket bearers were Robert and Calvin DeBuhr, Rev. Keith Selberg, Richard Winke, Roger Hesse, and Calvin Snitker.
