Death of a Former French Creek Resident - May 2, 1928 Waukon Paper

Relatives here received word the past week of the death of Mrs. Mary Rafferty of Chicago, who will be better remembered as Miss Mary Devitt of French Creek, a daughter of Mr and Mrs Martin Devitt, pioneer residents of French Creek, both of whom are deceased.

Deceased was fifty-five years of age and spent her youth here; later going to Chicago, where she met and married John Rafferty, who preceded her in death by about six weeks. She had been in good health up to within a week of her death and by a mere accident, struck her hip with a pin which developed into blood poison which was the cause of her sudden death.

Deceased is survived by three children, Mrs. James Adams, John and Joseph, all of Chicago and by one sister, Mrs Joe Ahearn of this city and five brothers, Mike, Francis and Bryan of Hanover and Pat and Martin of Lander, S. D.

The funeral was held Thursday morning from St. Mel's church with burial in the Mt. Calvary cenetery beside the remains of her husband.
