Death of Lifelong Resident of AllamakeeWm. K. Collins, a well known and highly respected resident of French Creek township, died Saturday evening at his farm home from heart trouble from which he had been a patient sufferer for over a year.
Deceased was born on the farm where his death occurred, on June 13, 1866. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Collins, early residents of French Creek. About 36 years ago on Sept. 28, he was united in marriage at the Lycurgus Catholic church with Miss Mary Plien.
Nine children came to bless their union, seven of whom survive with their mother to morn the death of a loved husband and father, namely Mrs. Arthur O'Brien, and Mrs. T. E. Kerndt, Waukon; Margaret Collins, Minneapolis; Alice, Dorothy, Lucille and Kenneth at home. Two sons preceded their father in death. Edward died when he was 14 months old, and Albert was accidentally killed about a year ago.
Mr. Collins is also survived by a brother and four sisters, John Collins, Waukegan, Ill.; Mrs. Julia McGuire, Portland, Oregon; Mrs Joe Bresnahan and Mrs. Mary Ketner and Mrs. Wm. Zoll, Hanover township.
Many friends mourn the death of Mr. Collins, whose clean life, honorable in all of his dealings with fellowmen, his consideration of the welfare of his friends and his genial jovial nature endeared him to all. In his passing, French Creek lost one of its worth and esteemed residents. He was also a honored member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St. Mary's church at Lycurgus. A requiem mass was celebrated by the pastor, Rev. McNamara. Burial was in the cemetery nearby. The casket bearers were Thos. Welch, John Murphy, Andrew Laughlin, Patrick McCauley, Robert Connor and Edward Teeling.
Among those from a distance who were here to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. W. K. O'Brien and Misses Mary and Edith Eggleston, Minneapolis; Frank Kenney, daughters Lorayne and Phylis, Mrs Wm. Bonadoer, daughter Janet, son William, La Crosse; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Berg, James O'Brien and Mrs. John White of Dubuque.
