Lorna M. Vichlach, 83, of Waukon, Iowa, died Friday, December 16, 2005, at her home. Funeral services were held Monday, December 19, at Rossville Presbyterian Church in Rossville, Iowa, with Rev. Amy Perkins officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.
Lorna Mae was born March 17, 1922, in New Albin, Iowa. Her parents were Fred and Ethel Hope (Sadler) Weymiller. She was baptized and confirmed at Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church, attended rural elementary schools, and graduated from Waukon High School in 1940. During World War II, Lorna worked in the operating room at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis.
June 30, 1948, she married Stephen F. Vichlach in La Crosse. They lived in Dubuque for a time before farming for a number of years, first in the early 1950s near New Albin and then moving near Rossville in 1959. Lorna also worked for a speaker company in McGregor and for Northern Engraving. Following Steve’s death in 1980, she has worked in the housekeeping department at Veterans Memorial Hospital and for Impro Products, both of Waukon. She also cleaned homes for many local residents.
Lorna was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Rossville Presbyterian Church and it’s ladies organizations. She enjoyed collecting plates and tea cups, gardening, quilting, and baking. An avid NASCAR fan, she liked to follow Dale Earnhardt, both Sr. and Jr. Spending time with her family and friends was Lorna’s favorite activity and she enjoyed sharing stories about their family history.
Survivors include three children, Terry of Davenport, Iowa, LaVonne of Denver, Iowa, and Tom of Lansing, Iowa; a grandson, Matthew Vichlach; three sisters, Evelyn Wild of Lansing, Hope (Jack) Griffin of Rochester, Minn., and Nancy (Tom) Collins of Hales Corners, Wis.; and four brothers, Leland (Orpha) Weymiller of Spring Grove, Minn., Fred “Fritz” Weymiller of Yuba City, Calif., and Donald and Ronald (Lois) Weymiller, both of New Albin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Stephen; and three sisters, Betty Smerud, Shirley Bulman, and Helen Campbell.
Casketbearers were David and Jim Leas, Steve Weighner, Doug Kubitz, Tim Fahey, and Randy Wild.
