Arlyn Gayle Pladsen, 60, of Waukon, died Sunday, Sept. 12 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI, following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, the Right Rev. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Hanover Cemetery in rural Waukon. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14 at Martin Funeral Home. A scripture service will be held at 3 p.m.
Arlyn was born Sept. 3, 1939 in Waukon, the son of Wallace and Ruby (Moen) Pladsen. He was confirmed at the Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church, attended elementary school at Old Northwest Paint Creek rural school and graduated from Waukon Senior High.
May 6, 1962, Arlyn was married to Theresa "Tess" Tierney at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon. Arlyn operated Pladsen Motors with his brother Roger, for a period of ten years. In 1990, he opened his own dealership and has since owned and operated Plad-Son Auto Sales in Waukon.
Arlyn was a member of the Waukon Chamber of Commerce and the Waukon Golf and Country Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Tess; three daughters and their husbands, Vicki and Matt Hein of Monticello, Geralyn and Pat Welsh of Milwaukee, WI, and Beth and Daryll Bohrer of Cedar Rapids; a son Ted of Iowa City. Arlyn was also survived by five brothers and their wives, Roger and Sandy of Waterville, Cletus and Ruth Ann and Gary and Lorrie, both couples of Waukon, David and Mary Ann of Vinton, and Kenneth and Yvonne of Virginia Beach, WV; one sister, Rosie and husband, Ben Caldwell of Newton; and six grandchildren.
Honorary casket bearers will be Lester Delaney, Joel Conderman, Greg Smith, Mark Mauss, Donald Larson, Lou Swenson, Wilbur Rose, Maurice Hart, and Lyle Wedeking. Casket bearers will be Dave, Gary, Cletus, Roger and Kenneth Pladsen, Matt Hein, Daryll Bohrer, Pat Welsh and Rosie Caldwell.
