Ellen Weipert, 84, Dies Here Friday
Pioneer Resident Called by Death: Funeral Monday Largely Attended

One of the largest funerals seen at the Catholic church, Lansing, in a long time, was that of Mrs. Ellen Weipert, relict of the late Ferdinand Weipert, who died Friday last, owing to the infirmities of old age. She would have been 84 years old had she lived another day.
Ellen Rippberger was born at Freeport, Ill., December 14, 1851. She came as a young woman to Lansing and on March 31, 1869, was married to Ferdinand Weipert, at Immaculate Conception church, by Father Jacoby. They settled on the old homestead in Lansing township, now occupied by Joseph F. Weipert, which was their home until Mr. Weipert died August 25, 1908. For the past ten year Mrs. Weipert has made her home in this city with her oldest daughter, Mrs. John Strub.
Deceased is survived by seven children, as follows; Michael, of Freeport, Ill., Frank, of Big Timber, Montana; Mrs. Ed. Sheriff, of New Albin; Mrs. John Strub, Mrs. George Scholtes, Joseph F. and Theodore, of Lansing. She is also survived by 48 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren. Three children also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Weipert's passing breaks the golden chain of five generations in her family pictured on page 2 of today's paper.
The funeral took place at 9 o'clock Monday morning. Msgr. Haxmeier officiating at the Requiem Mass and pronouncing the absolution afterwards. Burial in the family lot in Gethsemane, with five of her grandsons, Kenneth Weipert, Theo. Scholtes, Frank Gander, Leo Strub, and Theo. Strub, and her granddaughter's husband Myron Guider, acting as pallbearers.
Out of town relatives at the funeral were, Mr. Frank Weipert and daughters, Jane and Lucille, Dubuque, Michael Weipert, Freeport, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sheriff and daughter Delores, New Albin, Mr. and Mrs Sam Rettinger, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Rettinger, Long Lake, Minn., Mrs. Louis Gruber, Cannon Falls, Minn., John Rettinger, Rochester, Minn., and Will Rippberger, Rosemont, Mont.
