John F. "Jack" Peyton, 61, of Waukon, died Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 15 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial with graveside military rites was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.
John Francis "Jack" Peyton was born October 29, 1943, at the Hall Hospital in Waukon, Iowa, the son of Terence and Geraldine (Bresnahan) Peyton. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick's Catholic Church and graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 1962. Later that year he joined the Army where he saw duty at several bases in the US and also Germany. After being discharged in 1965, he attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis to study auto mechanics and then worked for Ford Motor Company. Jack returned to Waukon where he worked first at the Ford Garage and later ran his own auto repair shop. He later worked for Dave Moritz in Lansing and at Lansing Ford. The past several years he has worked at Waukon West Side Lumber.
Jack was a life-long member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the American Legion, and a former member of the Waukon Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed his work with cars and was the engine builder for the MPM Truck Pulling Team, which competed throughout the midwest. He was an avid NASCAR fan and a loyal Hawkeye and Packer supporter. He also loved to camp and play an occasional game of euchre.
Survivors include his loving friend, Marjean Fahey of Waukon; three daughters, Kelly (Scott) Ruhnke and their children Peyton, Nick, and Tim of Des Moines, Kim (Orville) Bunker and their child Austin of Newton, and Kami (Randy) Ahrens and their children Ashley and Hailey of North Liberty; a son, Jeremy (Jenny) Fahey and their children Madilyn and Olivia of Decorah; his mother, Geraldine Peyton of Waukon; four sisters, Pat (Dave) Stilwell and Cheryl Waldron, both of Waukon, Linda (Larry) Skogland of Bloomington, Minn., and Jenny (John) Givens of Greendale, Wis.; a brother, Bob (Darcy) Peyton of St. Paul Park, Minn.; 13 nieces and nephews; and three great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Terence, who died in 1999.
Honorary casketbearers were Dave Moritz, Dave Mortiz (sic) Jr., Donald Ewing, Gordy Kaeser, Paul Moritz, John Keenan, Darrell Ford, Clark Stilwell, and Gene Yeoman.
