George S. Smerud, 74, of New Albin, died Sat., Oct. 13, 2001 in Lansing.
Funeral services were held Wed., Oct. 17, 2001, at St. Joseph's Church with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, both in New Albin.
George was born Jan. 22, 1927, in Houston County, MN to Oscar and Clara Wild Smerud. He married Betty L. Weymiller. They farmed most of their lives.
George is survived by seven children; Ronald (Roxanne) Smerud of Lansing, Gordon Smerud of New Albin, Dean (Mary) Smerud of New Albin, Janette (Jim) of Lansing, David (Linda) Virginia, Nancy (Shane) all of New Albin, and Carla (Walter) of Lansing; 26 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and seven brothers and sisters: Margretta, Rosemary, Evangeline, Sara, Donald, Alfred and John.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty ; two children, Sheryl and Jerry; two sisters, Rita and Clara; one brother Edmund; and two great-grandchildren.
Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
