Gladys Leone Ewing, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, May 4 at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 7 at 3 p.m. at Martin Funeral Chapel in Waukon with the Rev. James Jacobson officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery.
She was born Jan. 9, 1903 in Waukon to Edward and Nina Belknap Hastings. She attended Waukon area schools, and had lived in Northwood, Lansing, Cedar Rapids, Elkport and Dubuque. She was a private nurse and housekeeper for many older individuals.
On Sept. 3, 1921 she married Jacob Ewing in Waukon. He died Sept. 2, 1951.
Surviving are three sons, Milton and Curtis of Cedar Rapids, and Jerrold of Loveland, CO; two daughters, Mrs. Roland (Marjorie) Dagel of Tyler, TX and Mrs. William (Nina) Sloatman of Rockford, IL; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a brother Clifford Hastings of Woodburn, OR, and a sister Muriel Promnitz of Minneapolis, MN.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a brother, Chester Hastings.
Casket bearers were Stan Ewing, Jerry Ewing, Keith Bloxham, Chuck Bloxham, John May and Kenneth Ewing.Allamakee Journal, Lansing, IA - May 10, 1989, page 6
