Catherine M. Wadsworth, daughter of Michael and Bridgett (Kernan) Mooney, was born Jan 1, 1911 in the Wexford area of Allamakee County. At an early age she was stricken with polio.
She graduated from Lansing Immaculate Conception High School and attended two years of secretarial college in LaCrosse, WI. Catherine did secretarial work for the Allamakee County draft board and relief office. When she was working for the county, the present courthouse was under construction and Catherine persuaded the builders to make the steps shallower so it would be easier for people like herself to climb the stairs. She also worked at the Waukon Newspapers.
July 27, 1946, she married Jack Wadsworth at St. Patrick's rectory in Waukon. They lived in Wenatchee, WA from 1969 to 1979, then moved back to Waukon. She also served as Jack's secretary when he sold BC/BS Insurance.
Catherine was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, St. Anthony's Study Club and 19th Century Club.
She died Sunday, April 30, 1995 at the Good Samaritan Center, she was 84.
Surviving are her husband; a son and his wife, Jim and Cathy of Waukon; four daughters, Louise and her husband Jerry Martin of Huntington, IN, Lucille and her husband Curtis Bull of Ellensburg, WA, Marie Wadsworth of Waukon, and Jane and her husband Steve Shiflett of Wenatchee; a sister Mary (Mrs. Dick) Mohn of Waukon, and 13 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son David, sister Alice Mooney and brother Harold Mooney.
Funeral services were held at 11 p.m. Wednesday, May 3 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rt. Rev. Monsignor Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Casket bearers were Sam Schulte, David Wadsworth, Michael Wadsworth, Jim Wadsworth, Brian Martin and Seth Shiflett.
Honorary bearers were Dick Mohn, Maurice Mooney, Tom Mooney, Bill Mohn and Bob Birdsell.
