Ilene Rose Sterner, 62, of Lansing, died Wednesday, May 3, 1995.
She was born August 27, 1933 in Olin, IA, the daughter of Amandus and Louse (Nissen) Christiansen. She graduated from Wyoming High School in 1951.
Ilene married Robert Sterner Nov. 13, 1955 in Wyoming, IA.
She was employed by Collins Radio from Jan. 1952 until 1960. In 1961 she and her husband moved to Lansing.
Ilene was a charter member of the Lansing Lioness Club, a member of the Legion Auxiliary, and belonged to the Sweet Adelines for 14 years. Ilene was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Lansing, where she was a member of the church choir and served as church secretary for over 30 years.. She was also a Brownie Scout Leader and helped start the Meals on Wheels program.
Survivors include her husband Robert; a son, Douglas Paul Sterner; a daughter, Christi Lee Sterner; two grandchildren; four sisters, Delores Scharff of Prairie du Chien, WI, Evelyn Doudney of Cedar Rapids, Lorene Brunscheen of Wyoming, IA, and Vivian Calloway, Clarence, IA and a brother Norman Christiansen of Wyoming, IA.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Ervin.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Lansing. Pastor Kim Thacker officiated.
Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Serving as pall bearers were Dave Wilson, Bill Bartels, Gus Kerndt, Rod Bloxham, Neil Kiesau and Harvey Estebo.
Burke Thornburg Funeral Home, Lansing was in charge of arrangements.
