Lela F. Urell was born Dec. 30, 1929 to Emmett and Irene (Bresnahan) Dougherty. She graduated from St. Patrick's High School and May 2, 1950 married John Urell at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
She was a member of St. Parick's and it's organizations and was employed as a machinist at Northern Engraving.
Lela died Friday, May 12, 1995 at the University of Iowa Hospital. She was 65.
Survivors include her husband and nine children. Kathryn and her husband, Ole Torgeson, David Urell, Mike and his wife Mary Urell, Carol and her husband Steve Ireland, Joe Urell, Larry and his wife Lori Urell, Kenny and his wife Dianna Urell, Gary Urell and Ann and her husband, Darrell Fahey.
Also surviving are 32 grandchildren,; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Wagner, Alice Johnson and Helen Kelley, and three brothers, John, Joe and Jim Dougherty.
Lela was preceded in death by a son Patrick and a brother Donald.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 15 at St. Patrick's with the Rt. Rev. Monsignor Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with arrangements by Hanson Funeral Home. Casket bearers were David, Mike, Joe, Kenny, Larry and Gary Urell.
