Obituary ------ The Waukon Democrat, Thursday, September 14, 1961

MANY ATTENDED GOETTEL RITES

LANSING--- Many friends gathered to attend the funeral of Daniel G. Goettel, life-long resident of the county, on Tuesday.

Goettel died suddenly Saturday [September 9] at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Munz. He was born March 16, 1878 at the Thompson Corner farm where he spent most of his life. He was one of the eight children of Gottlieb and Anna Goettel.

Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 12 from the Lansing Calvary EUB church. The Rev. Mr. Tom Balm officiated, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Don Iles of Cedar Falls. Pallbearers were Leonard Dee, Rudolph Dehli, Clarence Feuerhelm, Ed Gramlich, Ralph Jenkins and Arthur Jacobson.

He was married to Esther Hacklander at Blue Earth, Minnesota, Dec. 5, 1906. The Goettels lived at the farm home until their retirement in Lansing in 1945. He [sic] wife preceded him in death in March, 1946.

Five children, two daughters and three sons survive. They are: Mrs. George (Lois) Munz of Lansing; Lloyd of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Ralph (Alice Mae) Schild of Cedar Falls; John of Harpers Ferry and Arylss [sic] of Battle Creek, Mich.

Thirteen grandchildren survive as well as three sisters: Mrs. Annett [sic] Roggensack of Fargo, N. D.; Mrs. Minna Franklin of Elmore, Minn.; Mrs. Esther Doescher of Minneapolis, Minn.; and one brother, Aaron Goettel of Blue Earth, Minn.

From early youth Goettel's life and that of his family centered in his church. He was a member of the Thompson's Corner Evangelical church, later transferring his membership to Lansing Calvary EUB church. One of his happiest memories was that of April 26, 1953 when his church honored him for 54 consecutive years of membership on the trustee board and conferred upon him a lifetime honorary membership on the board of trustees. He had often served his church as lay delegate to the Iowa conference.

He was always faithful to community responsibility, accumulating a record of many years of service on various boards. He was for many years a director of the Paint Creek Farmers Telephone company and the German Fire Insurance company. He currently was a director of the Farmers and Merchants Savings bank of Waterville, for several years serving as president of the board.

Until recently he had been a member of the Lansing Kiwanis club. He had long been a faithful member of the Masonic order, Evergreen Lodge No. 144, A. F. & A. M.

Daniel G. Goettel, a life-long resident of Allamakee County, passed away suddenly Saturday, September 9, 1961 at the home of his daughteer, Mrs. George Munz.

Dan Goettel was born March 16, 1878, near Thompson's Corner at the farm where he spent most of his life. He was the son of Gottlieb and Anna Goettel, one of eight children.
