Anna Goettel, nee Schmidt, was born at Lomira, Wisconsin, on August 7th, 1854, and died at Blue Earth, Minnesota, on February 4th, 1935, after having attained the mature age of 80 years, 5 months and 27 days. At the age of twelve she moved to Minnesota. On July 24, 1872, she was united in marriage to Gottlieb Goettel. In the year of her marriage she moved to Iowa where she was a resident for 33 years. Her husband died in the year 1897, and eight years later, in 1905 she moved to Blue Earth where she spent the remaining days of her life. The deceased was converted at an early age at a camp meeting held at Lomira, Wisconsin, and became a member of the Evangelical Church for the rest of her life, a period of over 68 years. Although a shut-in for the last few years of her life, she followed with keen interest the activities and work of her church. Three of her brothers were ministers in the Minnesota Conference of the Evangelical Church and two of her daughters, Mrs. Clara Sydow and Mrs. Esther Doescher, are married to ministers. In her passing from this life, she is survived by one brother, John Schmidt of St. Charles; seven children: Aaron Goettel, Mrs. Laura Hacklander, Mrs. Clara Sydow of Blue Earth, Mrs. Minna Franklin of Elmore, Mrs. Anetta Roggensack of Moorehead, Minn., Mrs. Esther Doescher of San Diego, Calif., and Dan Goettel of Lansing, Iowa. There are also 27 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren, as well as a large number of friends. One daughter, Mrs. Fred Gust, preceded her in death. Mrs. Gust was state treasurer of the Minnesota branch of the Women's Missionary Society. Funeral services were held in the Salem Evangelical Church at 2:00 P.M. Thursday and burial was made in the Riverside cemetery with the pastor, Rev. H. E. Hiller, officiating, assisted by Rev. M. Wardelman.
